    MEM-076502: Special Education Parent Workshops for 2019-2020, August 19, 2019

    The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information, including dates and locations, for the Modified Consent Decree (MCD) required parent trainings as well as various parent workshops being offered throughout the District by the Division of Special Education during the 2019-20 school year. Information regarding the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is also included. Schools are required to publicize and disseminate this information to all parents of students with disabilities.

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform schools and offices of the Special Education School and Family Support Services (SFSS) Unit, which has been established to support the District’s complaint management system by assisting Los Angeles Unified School District (District) staff and families with inquiries, concerns, and/or complaints related to special education through the Division of Special Education Call Center and Complaint Response Unit (CRU).

     

    BUL-4680.0: Procedures for Addressing Parental Revocation of Consent for the Continued Provision of Special Education and Related Services, July 1, 2009

    In accordance with amendments to Federal Regulations, § 300.300 (b) (4), it is the District’s policy to inform parents of their right to revoke consent for the continued provision of special education and related services at any time subsequent to the initial provision of services. Prior to ceasing the services, the District must provide prior written notice to parents. This Bulletin provides District procedures for schools to follow when parents choose to revoke consent for the continued provision of all special education and related services for their child with disabilities.

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to (a) notify schools of the revision of A Parent’s Guide to Special Education Services (Including Procedural Rights and Safeguards), September 2018, (b) provide information on the delivery of the revised Guides to schools, and (c) provide instructions on how to obtain additional copies of the Guide, as needed.

     

    REF-1596.12:   Oral Interpretation at an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team Meeting, August 19, 2019

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform school administrators of the due date and procedures for inputting the names (in the Principal’s Portal) of staff eligible to provide oral interpretation in the home language of the parent when requested at IEP team meetings. Included are procedures, forms, and resources to assist schools in providing oral interpretation at IEP team meetings when requested by a parent.

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform school sites and District offices of the process to follow to submit a request for a written translation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) document and/or related documents. Information regarding the translation of Section 504 Plans is also provided.

     

    REF-3719.0: Parental Access to Draft Welligent IEP Pages, May 29,2007

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to inform school administrators that upon receipt of a parent request for draft Welligent Individualized Education Program (IEP) pages prior to the IEP meeting, the school must provide a copy of the requested draft Welligent IEP pages as they are at the time of the request. The draft Welligent IEP pages are to be provided within five business days. 

     

    REF-1233.0:   English/Spanish Glossary of Special Education Terms, January 26, 2005

    The purpose of this Reference Guide is to provide schools with a copy of the District’s “English/Spanish Glossary of LAUSD Terminology” which includes special education terms and phrases for schools to use in oral or written translation for Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, IEP documents and other communication with parents where translation from English to Spanish is necessary. In addition, a web address is provided so that this valuable glossary can be downloaded at no cost from the internet.
