Calling all International Newcomer Students!*
Join our International Newcomer Enrichment Summer Program at High Schools all across LA Unified. Program benefits include:
- English Language Development focused on Listening, Speaking, Reading, & Writing
- Builds College and Career Readiness Skills
- Promotes success in A-G courses
- Students will receive up to 10 elective high school credits!
Sessions are from June 22 to July 23, 2021, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 2:20 PM.

Rosetta Stone Access for Dual Language Education is Now Available for Languages Other Than English!
Rosetta Stone Access and Office Hours
Please keep in mind that students have access to one language. English Learners will access Rosetta Stone English and all other students will sign into the app for their target language.
Elementary Schools: The Rosetta Stone application has been installed in all courses for DLE Elementary Schools. Teachers and students can simply click on the application to launch the app from any course.
Secondary Schools: Before providing access to students, we recommend that you review the attached Rosetta Stone Getting Started Guide. Note: students will not gain access to the application until teachers give them access.

Executive Director’s Message
I am Lydia Acosta Stephens, your executive director for the Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department (MMED) at L.A. Unified. I am honored to lead our department, serving over 200,000 students, each with individual needs and unique pathways to academic success. We understand that our students require enriched language supports in every learning environment, and realize the urgency to ensure a relevant and rigorous educational program is accessible to all.
Our educational programs for students are tailored to meet the individual learning needs of our diverse English learners and all language learners on their pathway to bilingualism and biliteracy. Our educational programs reflect updated research, practice, monitoring, and resources on instructional delivery models. Programs such as Dual Language Education and World Languages are open to all.
We continue to work together towards bilingualism and biliteracy for all by ensuring equity, access and opportunities for all students regardless of the learning environment. At MMED, we fundamentally believe that we must all “be the light, be of service and be the solution”.
