Rooted in Resilience Presentations (Virtual & In-Person)
Political elections often bring about potential changes that may raise feelings of uncertainty, concern, fear, anger, and sadness for many students and families. This presentation will offer parents and caregivers strategies and resources to support their well-being in this post-election climate, and foster resilience in unpredictable times. Participants will have access to Know Your Rights information, immigration resources, and the opportunity to connect with organizations collaborating with our campaign, LAUSD 2025: We Are One.

School Enrollment, Placement & Assessment (SEPA) Centers
The primary purpose of the S.E.P.A. Center is to accelerate and facilitate the enrollment and adaptation into school for newly arriving and continuing students attending L.A. Unified schools. The center's services also include assisting schools across the District by providing consultation and advocacy for families. The S.E.P.A. Center is staffed by a multidisciplinary Student Health and Human Services team, including a Pupil Services & Attendance (PSA) Counselor, Psychiatric Social Worker (PSW), School Nurse/Nurse Practitioner, Health Insurance Advocate, and Interpreter Aides.

Wellness Centers
L.A. Unified Wellness Centers integrate and coordinate care for students and their families on school campuses throughout the District. Wellness Centers are L.A. Unified-built facilities staffed by outside medical providers/partners who focus on prevention, education, early intervention, and screening.

Psychological First Aid
Psychological First Aid (PFA)* is an evidence-informed approach for assisting children, adolescents, adults, and families in the immediate aftermath of a stressful life event, such as a disaster, school crisis, or emergency. PFA is designed to reduce the initial distress caused by traumatic events and to foster short and long-term adaptive functioning.

Step-by-Step Family Preparedness Plan
Every family should have a Family Preparedness Plan in case of an emergency. It is critical for immigrant families to think ahead and set more concrete plans for immigration emergencies that can arise. For example, this Resource Toolkit goes into detail about different childcare options available in case of an absent parent, where to find trusted immigration services in your community, and how to prepare to assert your constitutional rights in the presence of an immigration officer.
This toolkit is divided into different sections that give guidance on family preparedness planning, regardless of immigration status. It gives additional advice to undocumented and/or mixed-status families.

Red Cards
All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center's (ILRC) Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when Immigration, Customs & Enforcement (ICE) agents go to a home.

National Immigration Legal Services DirectoryThe National Immigration Legal Services Directory allows users to search for free or low-cost immigration legal services providers by state, county, or detention facility. Users can refine their search by areas and types of legal assistance provided, populations served, and languages spoken. Additional options include the ability to map results, create a PDF, email or print-friendly list of organizations, and to refer others to an organization via email. Users can also suggest new organizations to be added to the directory and provide suggestions for updates to information about existing organizations in the directory.
