    Dr. David BacaI’m Dr. David Baca, Superintendent for Local District Northwest. As one of six regions within Los Angeles Unified, we serve schools in the northwest portion of the District with 127 schools and over 70,000 students.

    As a Local District, we are relentlessly guided by the belief that all our students deserve a unique, rigorous, and culturally relevant education that prepares them to graduate ready for the world – to thrive in college, career, and life. We do this by empowering those who teach and support our students with dedicated teams focused on Instruction, Operations and Parent and Community Engagement.

    Know Your Air Network launches at Hesby Oaks Leadership Charter

    Nation’s Largest School-based Air Quality Monitoring Network Unveiled at Hesby Oaks Charter

    To ensure the safest learning environment for students, Los Angeles Unified unveiled the nation’s largest school-based air monitoring network at Hesby Oaks Leadership Charter as part of Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho’s 100-Day Plan. The Know Your Air Network includes the installation of sensors at 200 school locations across Los Angeles Unified’s 710 square-mile footprint, providing students, parents, teachers and the community with important real-time data about their local air quality.   • Community of Schools


  • Local District Northwest works with six Community of Schools. These Community of Schools are centered around local high schools and their corresponding middle and elementary schools. Support staff for each Community of School is located on-site, serving as a resource for students, parents, teachers and staff with a localized understanding of the communities that they serve.

  • Parent and Community Engagement


    Our Parent and Community Engagement (PACE) unit promotes student achievement by encouraging parent participation in their children's education. The PACE unit believes children learn best when schools collaborate with parents as equal partners. The PACE unit assists schools in Local District Northwest by creating welcoming environments for parents with opportunities for participation.
