On September 8, 2016, the State Board of Education (SBE) approved key elements of a new state accountability system that replaces the former Academic Performance Index (API) and Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) which relied mostly on student test scores to measure progress. The new system includes multiple measures and is aligned with the eight state priorities identified in the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). The new system will be implemented in 2017-18. This webpage summarizes the available information about school indicators, performance standards, and the criteria for determining technical assistance and intervention to districts.
Indicators of School Success
-
The SBE adopted state indicators of school success with performance standards:
- Chronic Absenteeism
- Suspension Rate
- English Learner Progress
- Graduation Rate
- College/Career
- Academic - English Language Arts
- Academic - Math
Beginning in Fall 2018, the State will identify schools based on performance on the above state indicators. For more information, click here.
Locally Defined Indicators
-
The SBE also adopted the following four local defined indicators with performance standards which will apply to districts (not individual schools):
- Basic conditions at a school
- Progress in implementing state standards
- Parent engagement
- School climate
