IMPORTANT NOTICE: BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2019, ALL DISTRICT EMAILS OVER TWO YEARS OLD WILL BE DELETED ON A DAILY BASIS.
L.A. Unified is implementing a new email retention policy to improve operational efficiencies, protect personal privacy, and reduce costs. Beginning January 1, 2019, all District emails over two years old will be deleted on a daily basis, unless tagged with a 4- or 7-year retention. The Move to 2 is a campaign to raise awareness about the policy.
The implementation of the policy will be rolled out according to the timeline below:
IMPLEMENTATION START: January 1, 2018 – employees begin purging and tagging emails within their LAUSD.net accounts
PHASE 1: June 1, 2018 – automatic deletion of untagged emails older than 7 years
PHASE 2: September 28, 2018 – automatic deletion of untagged emails older than 4 years
PHASE 3: January 1, 2019 – automatic daily deletion of untagged emails older than 2 years
While the official implementation begins on January 1, 2018, you are encouraged to get started now by reviewing your emails and tagging those to be retained longer than 2 years.
