Purpose
This guide provides information, recommendations, and resources to assist in planning for vaccine administration at LA Unified, outside of a controlled clinical setting. The Los Angeles Unified School District is committed to providing high quality in-school education during the COVID-19 pandemic in a manner that safeguards the health of students, teachers, and staff. To ensure the safest environment possible, LA Unified is working with a robust group of stakeholders and partners to conduct COVID-19 vaccination for employees. Vaccinations will help the District safely return employees and students to school so that healthy teachers and students can teach and learn.
The safe administration of vaccines will require operational modifications to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19.
Overview of Operational Considerations
Based on guidance from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH), during the first few phases of vaccination, local vaccination sites with multiple teams will be strategically located in Community of Schools (CoS) locations that are easily accessible to employees. They are set up as walk-up/drive-thru sites with parking. Locations are on campus and include an indoor processing space with outdoor vaccination stations located under a walled canopy or may be entirely outdoors. Vaccination sites are pre-determined and include an area for vaccine preparation, storage, proper traffic flow, and ingress and egress for the vaccination team and those being vaccinated, including post-vaccination waiting space for observation to ensure no adverse reaction.
