OEM: About our office
The Office of Emergency Management of the Los Angeles Unified School District is dedicated to assuring that all District employees and students are prepared to respond to any emergency threat or hazard in a reasonable and responsible way and thus ensure that the highest level of safety during an incident is achieved. WE ARE READY AND RESILIENT.
Emergency Management Internship Program
This internship presents a unique opportunity for aspiring individuals to immerse themselves in the dynamic field of emergency management and administration, offering a multifaceted experience that combines hands-on training, program development, and promotional activities. As an integral part of our team, interns will gain practical insights into organizing in-person emergency-related training sessions, contributing to the creation of training materials, and actively participating in emergency operation center support. The role extends beyond traditional responsibilities, providing exposure to data analysis, video content creation, and collaboration with the field of business continuity. Interns will not only play a crucial role in enhancing community safety but will also receive mentorship from professionals, fostering personal and professional growth. This internship is an opportunity for individuals passionate about making a positive impact on their community by contributing to emergency preparedness while acquiring valuable skills and experience in the field of administration and emergency management.

During my internship at the OEM, I had the privilege of collaborating with leading experts in emergency management. This unique opportunity enabled significant personal and professional growth that would have been unattainable elsewhere. The realization that the work done in OEM has a profound impact on the LAUSD community added a level of fulfillment to my experience.
Being part of a team that not only listens but actively integrates new ideas is a hallmark of this office. This inclusive and innovative culture encouraged me to contribute my insights and suggestions, which were welcomed and often implemented, enhancing our project outcomes. The mentorship I received was exceptional, guiding me through complex challenges and inspiring a deep-seated confidence in my ability to make meaningful contributions.
The experience has not only sharpened my skills in strategic planning and emergency management, but also deepened my commitment to public safety and preparedness. It's inspiring to work in an environment where every project has a direct and positive effect on community resilience and safety.
