Autonomous Schools in LAUSD

LAUSD offers schools the choice to become Expanded School Based Management Model Schools (ESBMM), Local Initiative Schools (LIS), and Pilot Schools.

 

·        ESBMM and Pilot schools offer similar packages of autonomies.

·        LIS schools select from a menu of waivers.

·        Pilot and LIS schools may waive parts of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

·        All autonomous schools:

• Are subject to state and federal laws

• Remain part of the District; open to students in accordance with the student assignment plan
