Los Angeles Unified Provides More Than 4 million Meals
To Children and Families in Need
Expanding Meal Service to Additional City Homeless Shelters
Dole Packaged Foods Adds Fruit to the Menu
Los Angeles Unified has provided more than 4 million meals since the Grab & Go Food Centers opened on March 18. Los Angeles Unified will also be providing meals to 13 temporary homeless shelters in Los Angeles.
“In the success is a warning sign,” Superintendent Austin Beutner said. “The need in our community is large and growing as the coronavirus impacts the families we serve, many of whom were struggling to get by before the recent, unprecedented layoffs began to be felt. We are providing help where it is needed.”
Los Angeles Unified also announced that 140,000 Dole Fruit Bowls and Dole Fridge Packs were served today to students and families at the 63 Grab & Go Food Centers.
“We are pleased to be able to assist Los Angeles Unified with their Grab & Go Food Centers by donating healthy Dole fruit products,” said Brad Bartlett, President, Dole Packaged Foods, The Americas. “Dole Packaged Foods is committed to ‘Sharing the Sunshine’ by making our nutritious products available to school-age children during these trying times.”
Los Angeles Unified’s Grab & Go Food Centers will remain open 8 to 11 a.m. during Spring Break, April 6-10, providing two meals a day to students and families in need. For a list of the centers and other resources, visit lausd.net.
