Los Angeles Unified is cooperating with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and all of our law enforcement partners as they investigate a threat made against Ánimo Mae Jemison Charter Middle School, which is an independent charter authorized by the district.
The Sheriff’s Department acted on information provided by the school community about this incident. We all have a responsibility to keep students and all who work in our schools safe, and we are grateful to those who spoke up.
This incident and the recent tragedy at Saugus High School have understandably created anxiety and concerns regarding school safety. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our students and staff and will remain vigilant in providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for the students, families and communities we serve.
