Los Angeles Unified Update on Fire and School Closures (1-08-25)
Los Angeles, CA (Jan. 8, 2025) – Schools in the central and eastern part of Los Angeles Unified (North of Manchester Boulevard/Firestone Boulevard, East of 10th Avenue, West of Interstate 710, and South of Highway 134) that are experiencing hazardous air quality conditions will be closed today. A full list of schools will be released shortly. The situation rapidly changed overnight as the Eaton fire exploded and it is prudent that we follow the science and close schools.
All athletic activities, games, and practices are cancelled today.
The six schools previously announced will remain closed. All other areas should exercise caution and protect themselves. The District will extend flexibility and grace with schedules, families, and employees, including schools that are most impacted being able to pivot to minimum day schedules.
Individuals with chronic health and/or respiratory conditions should not go to school or work.
