Vision

The vision of the Physical Education Teacher Itinerant Program (PETIP) is to model and support elementary teachers to independently provide a sequential program of standards-based physical education focused on the whole child.

To advance and support quality physical education.

Goals

• Deepen content knowledge in physical education for the elementary teachers we support
• Model and deliver exemplary physical education lessons
• Mentor elementary teachers to deliver quality physical education that in turn develops the whole child with knowledge, skills and dispositions to encourage health-enhancing physical activity across the lifespan

The application process is now closed.

PETIP provides funding for a credentialed physical education itinerant teacher, one day per week, at each participating elementary school for two years to provide embedded professional development for 6-8 designated elementary teachers during physical education instruction. This model is designed to provide teachers with pedagogy and content knowledge needed to assist them in meeting the state-mandated 200 minutes of physical education every 10 school days. Participating teachers are expected to gradually assume the role of providing physical education instruction with the assistance of the itinerant teacher as a coach, no later than the second semester of year one. In addition, schools will receive appropriate physical education equipment. However, it will be the responsibility of the site administrator to allocate funds to replenish equipment as needed.

The Specialized Foundation Riding for Focus Grant

The Specialized Foundation uses cycling as a tool for children to achieve academic, health and social success. Through investments in primary scientific medical research and school-based cycling programs, our mission is to increase accessibility to cycling to aid youth in personal development and education.

It’s a pretty simple formula: kids + bikes = happier, more attentive students in the classroom, and for the past few years, The Specialized Foundation has been helping this happen. We’re dedicated to giving both schools and children the tools to achieve academic, health, and social success, and we want to encourage more schools to get involved. UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind Grant

For more than 20 years, UCLA Health Sound Body Sound Mind has installed state-of-the-art fitness centers and provided physical education resources to LAUSD middle schools and high schools.

For the 2021-2022 school year, we are focusing our efforts to reengage and reintroduce our school community with the UCLA Health SBSM family. Program Enhancement is our newest initiative and its goal is to provide maintenance and/or equipment replacement to SBSM fitness centers that have been in use for more than five years. This program will also provide professional development on SBSM’s full resources for all physical education staff. Play 60 Challenge

The Los Angeles Rams want to bring a Play 60 Challenge Assembly to LAUSD schools! Centered on their unique Play 60 Challenge inflatable game board, this 45-minute assembly is designed to engage local youth in activities that promote physical fitness, healthy lifestyles and character education. Rampage, the Rams mascot, will be there to help make this assembly the most fun and educational assembly of the year!
