    Major Programs

  • Los Angeles Unified has made a focused effort to utilize Unrestricted General Funds to support all students and to increase student achievement. Several of the major programs within the Unrestricted General Fund that support this vision are the Student Equity Needs Index (SENI), Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP) and Community Schools Initiative.

SENI is an equity-based formula that assists in allocating funds to schools directly. Funds are allocated at a per pupil rate based on the school’s SENI score. The SENI score is determined by a series of indicators that are weighted differently such as % of English Learners, 1st grade primary literacy test scores, A-G completion rate, chronic absenteeism, and many others.

    BSAP

The BSAP funds are designed to address longstanding disparities in educational outcomes between Black students and their non-Black peers. BSAP funds address the need for culturally responsive curriculum and instruction as the classroom norm, fosters partnerships with community-based organizations and provides increased staffing support to address the needs of Black students.

The Community Schools Initiative aims to deliberately and collaboratively use a social justice theory of action to address the economic and social barriers that are the underlying cause of opportunity and achievement gaps. Each Community School has been engaged in a year-long Assets and Needs Assessment (ANA) process.
