• How Do I Become a Substitute?

  • HOW DO I BECOME AN LAUSD SUBSTITUTE TEACHER?

    In order to become a substitute, you must first apply at www.teachinla.com.  After going through the recruitment process, you will be placed on an eligibility list to be eligible for employment as a substitute.  You will receive instructions from each department in the onboarding process with all requirements and forms that need to be complete before onboarding.

    *Note:  If you hold a valid document in CTC, a COC may not be required.

    **District prints are only valid for 60 days. After 60 days you are required to retake.

    ***Tuberculosis exam is only valid for 60 days.  After 60 days you are required to retake and submit.

    ****Teacher Training Academy is required for those that do not hold a Valid Prov/Prob credential or have already completed student teaching.

    The Substitute Unit staff verifies the Certificate of Clearance, District Employment Fingerprints, and TTA.

    The TB, Physical, and Proof of Covid Vaccine are to be submitted to the Health Unit and will be verified by Substitute Unit staff.

     

    After meeting all the requirements listed above, you will receive further instructions and an invitation to onboard.  Once you receive your invitation to onboard, your name will be added to a list.  At this point, the credential unit will be able to view your name and know that you have been invited to process.  A representative from the credential unit will reach out to you.  This may be any time before or after your scheduled onboarding appointment.

    At your onboarding appointment, you will be required to have the following forms:

    • Child Abuse Awareness Training Form
    • Blood Pathogen Forms
    • Completed onboarding packet
    • Employment Eligibility Documents
    • Official Transcripts, CBEST, and a summary of scores (If submitting eTrancripts, the credentials representative will provide further instructions.)
    • Retirees will also need to submit the following:
    • STRS Awards Letter
    • LA County Employment Authorization for Retirant Form 503-708

    After your onboarding appointment and processing with the credentials unit, you will receive a credential clearance form.  At this point, the Substitute Unit will onboard you.  After you are processed, you will receive an employee number and a welcome packet.
