Supporting Teacher Education, Preparation and Undergraduate Program!
STEP UP and Teach provides guidance and support to LAUSD paraeducators and School Climate Advocates who aspire to become teachers. Paraeducators and School Climate Advocates in a job class within Unit B or Unit F may apply for the STEP UP and Teach program.
Benefits of STEP UP and Teach membership include:
Ongoing mentorship and professional guidance on appropriate academic pathways, credential requirements and teacher preparation programs
Financial assistance of up to $8,000 annually for educational and credential related expenses. Expenses may include, but are not limited to, reimbursement for tuition, textbooks, technology and exam fees.
Professional Development opportunities
Each STEP UP and Teach subject area focuses on a different high-need teaching area.
Special Education (SPED) - supports members who are seeking to become a special education teacher
Multilingual and Multicultural (MM) - supports members who are bilingual and are seeking to earn any base teaching credential with a Bilingual Authorization. Bilingual Authorizations allow you to provide instruction in Dual Language programs.
Science & Mathematics (STEM) - supports members who are seeking to earn a single subject credential in Science or Mathematics
PE & Visual and Performing Arts - supports members who are seeking to earn a single subject credential in PE, Theater, Art or Dance

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED FOR CURRENT LAUSD EMPLOYEES ONLY
Applications are accepted year round. Only complete applications will be reviewed in consideration for program acceptance. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received, and eligible applicants will be accepted to the appropriate Career Ladder program as space allows.

The following documents are required to be considered for program acceptance:
Transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
Upload a copy of all college and university transcripts to your SuccessFactors profile (a high school diploma is acceptable when applicable)
Foreign transcripts require a transcript evaluation from an approved agency (click here for a list of approved agencies)
Principal Reference is required for all school site employees. Immediate Supervisor Reference is required for all non-school site employees.
In the REFERENCEsection, add the contact information of your current/most recent principal or immediate supervisor. A request to complete an electronic reference will be emailed to all persons added to the REFERENCE section of your SuccessFactors profile. The principal or immediate supervisor reference must be received for your application to be considered.
