  • Academic Support & Achievement Program

    Purpose

The Academic Support and Achievement Program (ASAP) provides targeted, intensive academic support to identified, high-need foster and probation youth through one-on-one or small group after-school tutoring by an effective LAUSD teacher. ASAP was established in 2015 as a result of the reorganization of the former Neglected, Delinquent, and/or At-Risk youth program.

    Goal

    • Improve educational services for youth who are neglected, delinquent or at risk so that they have the opportunity to meet the same challenging academic standards as all other students
    • Engage caregivers, parents, and community partners in the educational process
    • Improve basic academic skills (math and reading)
    • Improve academic grades, as well as cooperation and work habit marks
    • Increase credit accrual toward high school completion
    • Increase graduation rates

    Objectives

    Teacher Tutors will:

    • Review and assess academic records (grades, transcriptions, and test scores) and student strengths/interests
    • Collaborate with Student Health and Human Services staff in the development, implementation, and monitoring of student-driven academic support/tutoring plans every 90 days
    • Provide individualized and/or small group tutoring in a licensed facility, foster home, group home, and/or school or community setting
