Guidance for Employees

Effective September 26, 2023, the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education rescinded its COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, charter school employees and prospective employees are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.


Guidance for Certificated Employees

Certificated Employees Currently in Unpaid Status (including unpaid leave)

As an employee currently in unpaid status (including unpaid leave), you are expected to return to an assignment within the District effective Monday, October 2, 2023. Please go to this link and indicate if you intend to:

  • Return to a District assignment
  • Utilize benefit time to prepare for a return (formally request or extend a leave of absence)
  • Officially resign from the District

If you intend to return to a District assignment, you will receive an assignment notification for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. Responses need to be submitted no later than Monday, October 9, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. Failure to respond may result in discipline up to, and including, termination. You may email HRAssignments@lausd.net if you have additional questions.

Former Certificated Employees

As a former certificated employee, you are eligible to reapply for an assignment with the District. You may be required to submit documentation, including, but not limited to the following: 

  • Fingerprint clearance
  • Proof of Tuberculosis (TB) and medical clearance.

Guidance for Classified Employees

Classified Employees Currently in Unpaid Status (including unpaid leave)

As an employee currently in unpaid status due to the lack of the formerly required COVID-19 vaccinations (including unpaid leave), you are eligible and required to return to your assignment within the District effective Monday, October 2, 2023.

If you are unable to return immediately, please let your time reporter know at your site if you intend to:

  • Return to a District assignment
  • Utilize benefit time to prepare for a return (formally request or extend a leave of absence)
  • Officially resign from the District

You will receive an assignment notification via email to report to your assigned location on Monday, October 2, 2023.

Former Classified Employees

As a former classified employee, you are eligible to reapply for employment with the District. If approved, you will be contacted for a processing appointment once an available position has been identified.

You will be required to provide the following:

  • Current fingerprints
  • Proof of Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
  • Identification documents
