Beginning on September 26, 2023, the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education rescinded its COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, charter school employees, and prospective employees are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Los Angeles Unified schools continue to be one of the safest places for students to be as a result of the robust safety measures implemented during the pandemic.Los Angeles Unified remains committed to continuing to provide clean, maintained and well-ventilated school facilities. With the availability of vaccines and therapeutics, schools have successfully safely reopened for in-person learning.
To ensure our school communities remain safe, Los Angeles Unified has engaged in several important preventative and proactive safety measures guided by local health officials and medical experts.
Stronger Filtration Systems in All Schools
Los Angeles Unified remains committed to continuing to provide clean, maintained and well-ventilated school facilities. All HVAC systems are designed to incorporate outdoor air to the greatest extent possible
Portable HEPA air cleaning devices are also deployed based on need.
Responsive Testing and Outreach
COVID-19 has entered into a state of stability and predictability like the flu and RSV.
When high transmission is detected, we will highlight the importance of testing and personal hygiene with outreach and resources guided by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health's recommended response testing model.
Ongoing Partnerships with Local Health Officials
Los Angeles Unified maintains ongoing partnerships with UCLA and the the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to ensure we remain responsive to current health conditions.
