HISTORY
On February 7, 2022, The Los Angeles Board of Education passed the Climate Literacy resolution, which set the stage for creating a comprehensive Climate Literacy Program in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
The resolution was sponsored by Board Member Scott M. Schemerelson and co-sponsored by Board Members Dr. George J. Mckenna and Jackie Goldberg.
The comprehensive approach includes education that covers environmental justice, green jobs, and dispelling myths and misinformation.
LA Unified worked with the Climate Curricula Committee (Los Angeles Chapter) and the Climate Reality Project (CRP-LA) founded by former Vice President Al Gore over several months to make climate literacy education a reality and priority for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
