In the Spotlight: Investing in our schools, students, and staff

In accordance with the Reed Investment Schools agreement, PLLD has coordinated the delivery of specialized professional development designed to empower teachers to provide instruction that addresses the needs of their unique student population to combat the challenges of high student dropout, low academic performance, and high teacher turnover.

As part of the agreement, the Reed Investment Schools must complete a total of 60 hours of professional development in two academic years. During Spring 2015, in addition to the 20 hours of professional development   received by all Investment School staff, non-permanent staff members had the opportunity to complete an additional 20 hours. Titled Equity through Excellence in LAUSD’s Reed Investment Schools, this professional development was delivered by PLLD staff and completed in three-day sequential sessions. During the fall of the 2015-2016 school year, Reed Investment School staff completed their remaining 20 hours provided by a school-selected vendor. All Reed Investments Schools are being visited this school year to observe and discuss with school site staff and students the impact of the professional development on instruction.
