MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE STANDARDS
Los Angeles Unified School District has selected the Integrated Model published in the CA NGSS Framework for science middle grades. An interOffice Correspondence was sent to all schools to guide and support the implementation. All LAUSD middle schools are implementing integrated courses for science. Click on this link to download the standards: The California Next Generation Science Standards- Preferred Integrated Model.
The rigor and expectations of the three-dimensional learning of NGSS for each grade band endpoint are well-defined. It is of great importance that teachers use the progression document as they are planning their instruction.
SUPPORTING SCHOOLS FOR NGSS FULL IMPLEMENTATIONTeachers are encouraged to attend professional development offered by their local districts and the Division of Instruction. Each Region has its own network of support for science instruction. Professional development opportunities for teachers are currently available and ongoing. For more information, contact your regional staff.Moving towards NGSS is a process best done as a collaborative approach. Ongoing collaboration is needed within and across grade levels since some of the content has shifted. Teachers may use the curriculum maps on the Middle School Instructional Resources page for guidance on standards and suggestions for units and assessments.A Middle School Science Schoology Group is available for teachers to interact, and share resources and best practices. Please contact Ayham Dahi at ayham.dahi@lausd.net to get the access code. The Schoology Group also houses the LAUSD interim assessment which you may assign to your students in Schoology or as printed copies.
